Privacy Policy

Maka Media, Inc. (“Maka,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides the Maka app (the “App”) and the website www.makakids.com (the “Website”) (together, the “Services”). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. The Services are provided from, and intended for users in, the United States.

The App is designed for children and is meant to be used under the supervision of a parent or guardian aged 18 or older. Only parents and guardians can create accounts.

Summary

• We collect only what we need to run the Services, and we collect it from parents, never directly from children.

• The App has no ads. We don’t sell personal information, share it for anyone else’s advertising, or track you or your child across other companies’ apps or websites.

• We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

• You can review, change, or delete your information and your children’s profiles at any time.

Information We Collect

Information you give us

• Account: your name, email address, and sign-in method (email code, Apple, or Google), and a record of the terms and policies you have accepted.

• Date of birth: to confirm you are 18 or older. Your year of birth also unlocks the parental gate.

• Child profiles: a first name or nickname, an age range, and an avatar for each child.

• Settings and preferences: favorite shows and play timers.

• Messages: what you send us through support or feedback, with your name and email address.

Information collected as you use the App

• Viewing activity: what each child profile watches and when, so we can show it under Watched, resume shows, and suggest what to watch next.

• Purchases: your subscription plan and status, which we receive from Apple. Apple handles payment; we never receive your card details.

• Usage and diagnostics: how the App is used (such as screens viewed, buttons tapped, videos played, and searches), error reports, and your device type, operating system, and app version. This is linked to your account, including your email address, but never to your child’s name, age, or other information about your child.

• Install attribution: which campaign or link led to the App being installed. Our attribution provider receives a pseudonymous install ID and basic device and network information, such as IP address, but never your name, email address, or device advertising or vendor identifiers, and it doesn’t share data with advertising networks.

• Technical data: your IP address and device information, which our servers and video delivery network receive when the App connects. We use them to deliver and secure the Services, not to identify you or track your location.

What we don’t collect

• Advertising identifiers, contacts, photos, precise location, or microphone or camera input.

• Biometric data. Face ID and Touch ID run on your device, which only tells the App whether they succeeded.

How We Use Information

• To provide the Services: accounts and sign-in, child profiles, video playback, parental controls, and subscriptions.

• To personalize each child’s experience, such as resuming shows and suggesting what to watch next. We never use it to build advertising profiles.

• To keep the Services working and secure, and to understand how they are used so we can improve them.

• To answer support requests and feedback.

• To email you about your account and, unless you opt out, about product updates and educational content.

• To measure our own marketing.

• To comply with the law.

How We Share Information

We don’t sell or rent personal information. We share it only as follows:

• Service providers that work on our behalf: hosting and databases, sign-in, video hosting and streaming, subscription management, product analytics and error reporting, email, install attribution, and app update delivery. They may use information only to provide their services to us, and must protect it.

• Children’s information (profiles and viewing activity) goes only to the providers that host and run the Services. It is never shared with analytics, email, attribution, or advertising providers.

• Apple, Google, and YouTube. Purchases are made through Apple, and Apple or Google handle sign-in if you choose them. Older versions of the App play videos through YouTube’s embedded player, which receives standard technical data such as your IP address. Each processes that information under its own privacy policy.

• Legal and safety: to comply with law or legal process, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the Services.

• Business transfers: as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

• De-identified information: we may use and share information that can’t reasonably identify you or your child, for example to discuss feedback and insights in collaboration and AI tools.

Children’s Privacy

• Parents create all accounts and child profiles. Children never sign in or give us information.

• For each child, we hold only the profile (first name or nickname, age range, and avatar), the settings you choose, and viewing activity. We use it only to run the App for that child.

• Purchases, settings, and links out of the App are behind a parental gate.

• You can review, change, or delete a child’s profile and viewing activity in the App at any time, or ask us to. Deleting a profile stops further collection for that child.

• If you think we have collected information from a child without a parent’s consent, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, and sign-in tokens are stored securely on your device. No system is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee the security of your information.

Data Retention

• We keep your account information while your account is open.

• We keep a child’s profile and viewing activity until you delete that profile or your account.

• When you delete your account, we delete your information and your children’s profiles, except where the law requires us to keep it.

Your Rights and Choices

• Review, update, or delete your information and your children’s profiles in the App, or by contacting us.

• Delete your account at any time in the App’s settings.

• Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any of them.

Our Website

The Website is for parents and is not directed to children. Unlike the App, it uses cookies, analytics, and advertising tags.

• What it collects: your email address if you submit a form; the campaign details in the link you arrived from, kept in your browser tab’s session storage; the pages you view and how you interact with them; and standard log data such as IP address, browser, and approximate location.

• Who receives it: our website hosting, content management, analytics, tag management, and web font providers, and our email provider (your email address and campaign details). Advertising platforms whose pixels we use act independently: they set their own cookies and may collect information about your activity across websites over time, including to show you our ads.

• Your choices: block or delete cookies in your browser, and use each advertising platform’s ad settings.

• Retention: if you only submitted a form, we keep your email address and campaign details until you ask us to delete them or we no longer need them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we will tell you in the App or by email before they take effect.
