Maka Kids Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 20, 2026

Maka Media, Inc. (“Company”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of children and families. This Privacy Policy describes our practices regarding the collection, use, and protection of information for the Maka Kids app (the “App”) and the website located at www.makakids.com (the “Website”) (collectively, the “Services”). The sections that follow describe our practices for the App; additional practices that apply specifically to the Website are summarized at the end of this policy under Our Website. This Privacy Policy also tells you about the rights and choices you have with respect to your information, how you can assert those rights, and how you can contact us to get answers to your questions.

THE APP IS DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN AND IS INTENDED TO BE USED UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A PARENT OR GUARDIAN WHO IS AGE 18 OR OLDER. ONLY PARENTS AND GUARDIANS SHOULD CREATE ACCOUNTS.

Overview

  • The App is listed in the Kids Category on the Apple App Store. We comply with Apple's Kids Category guidelines, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and applicable children's privacy laws.
  • The App contains no advertising and no behavioral or cross-app tracking. We do collect a small amount of anonymous data to keep the App working — what we collect, and what we never collect, is described in Usage and Reliability Data below.
  • We do not sell personal information. We do not share data from the App with third parties for their own advertising or marketing.
  • We only collect the minimum information necessary to provide the Services, and this information is collected from the parent or guardian — never directly from a child.

By accessing or using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, you should not use the Services.

Our Services are provided from the United States and all servers that make them available reside in the United States. The Services are intended for users situated in the United States only.

If you have questions, you can always contact us using the information in the section below titled Contact.

Information We Collect and How We Collect It

We collect a limited amount of information, and only from parents or guardians — never directly from children. “Personal Information” means information that reasonably identifies, relates to, describes, or can be associated with you.

Information Provided by Parents/Guardians:

  • Parent or guardian name and email address (for account creation and authentication).
  • Parent or guardian date of birth — used to verify the account holder is at least 18 years old. The year of birth is also used to verify the parent at the parental access gate.
  • Child profile information: first name (or nickname) and age range. We do not collect a child's exact date of birth, full name, or any other personally identifiable information about the child.
  • Content preferences: favorite shows and characters selected by the parent to personalize the child's experience.

Technical Information Collected Automatically:

  • Device model, operating system version, and app version — used to ensure App compatibility and diagnose technical issues. This information is never linked to your child's profile and is associated only with an opaque parent account identifier.

What We Do NOT Collect:

  • We do not use cookies, web beacons, or similar tracking technologies in the App.
  • We do not use any advertising SDKs or display any advertisements.
  • We do not collect contacts, photos, or any other sensitive device data beyond what is described in this policy.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage parent accounts and authenticate sign-in;
  • To create and manage child profiles so we can personalize the child's video content experience;
  • To provide, operate, and maintain the App and its features;
  • To enforce parental controls, including play timers, parental access verification, and content restrictions;
  • To send occasional product updates and educational content to the parent account holder (you can unsubscribe at any time);
  • To respond to law enforcement requests and as required by applicable law, court order, or legal process;
  • To help maintain the safety, security, and integrity of the App;
  • To respond to support inquiries from parents or guardians.

Third-Party Services

Authentication: We use Clerk (clerk.com) to handle parent/guardian account authentication (email sign-in, Google, and Apple sign-in). Clerk processes only the parent's email and authentication credentials. Children do not create accounts or authenticate in any way. Clerk's privacy policy is available at clerk.com/legal/privacy.

Video Playback: The App uses an embedded YouTube player to stream curated, age-appropriate video content. The App protects your privacy: no user identifiers, account information, or personal data is transmitted to YouTube. The App keeps your child safe: the video player does not allow children to browse, search, or navigate to other YouTube content.

Usage Analytics and Error Reporting: We use PostHog (posthog.com) for anonymous usage analytics and Sentry (sentry.io) for error reporting. Both are described in detail in Usage and Reliability Data below. The App does not include any advertising networks, social media SDKs, or data brokers, and we do not share data from the App with third parties for their own tracking, profiling, or marketing purposes.

Marketing Emails: We use Customer.io (customer.io) to send occasional product updates and educational content to parents. Customer.io receives the parent's email address and basic account metadata used to segment who receives which email — never your child's name, age, or any other information about your child. We do not authorize Customer.io to use your information for any purpose other than sending these emails on our behalf. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any such email.

Usage and Reliability Data

We collect a limited amount of anonymous, parent-only usage and reliability data so we can keep the App working and fix problems. We do not collect this data directly from your child, and we do not link it to your child's name, date of birth, or any other identifying information about your child. We never sell this data, and we never share it for advertising or marketing.

What we may collect. App lifecycle events (open, background), screen names, button taps, video playback events (started, paused, completed), the search terms you submit in the App, error reports, and broad device characteristics such as platform (iOS or Android), app version, and operating system version. Each event is associated only with an opaque parent account identifier — never with your name, email, or any other contact information.

What we never collect. Your child's name, age, exact date of birth, or any other identifying information about your child. Your name, email address, phone number, or any other contact information about you. Your device's advertising identifier (such as Apple's IDFA) or any other persistent device identifier. Screen recordings.

How we limit location data. We do not use your IP address to identify you, to enrich usage data, or to retain a record of where you connect from. We do not collect location data more precise than your city.

Who processes it on our behalf. We use PostHog (posthog.com) for usage analytics and Sentry (sentry.io) for error reporting. The data they receive from us is anonymous and is scrubbed of the items listed under What we never collect before it leaves your device. We do not authorize them to use this data for advertising, marketing, or any purpose other than providing these services to us.

Your control. You can request deletion of all usage and reliability data associated with your account at any time by contacting support@makamedia.co. We will complete deletion within 30 days.

How We Disclose or Share Your Information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share data from the App with third parties only in the following limited circumstances.

Service Providers: We use a limited number of service providers (such as our authentication provider and cloud hosting) who access data only as necessary to perform their functions on our behalf. They are contractually prohibited from using your information for their own purposes.

Legal Compliance: We may disclose information as we believe necessary or appropriate: (a) to comply with applicable law or legal process; (b) to respond to requests from government authorities; (c) to enforce our Terms and Conditions; (d) to protect the safety and rights of users; and (e) to allow us to pursue available remedies or limit damages.

Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via the App or email of any change in ownership or uses of your Personal Information.

Security

We use reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and security of your information. Authentication tokens are stored securely on-device. However, no method of safeguarding information is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that our safeguards will be effective or sufficient. If you believe your interaction with us is no longer secure, please contact us at support@makamedia.co.

Biometric identification is processed by your device. We do not collect, receive, or store any of your biometric identifiers or biometric information. Instead, your device tells our app solely whether the identification was successful or not. Enabling biometric identification is optional and can be turned off at any time.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Services. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at support@makamedia.co. Upon account deletion, we will delete your Personal Information and your children's profile data from our servers within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Children's Privacy

Maka Kids is designed for children and is listed in the Kids Category on the Apple App Store. We take children's privacy seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

  • Only parents or guardians can create accounts. Children do not create accounts, sign in, or provide any personal information.
  • Child profiles contain only a first name (or nickname) and an age range, both provided by the parent.
  • The App does not collect, use, or disclose personal information from children beyond what is described in this policy.
  • The App does not contain any advertising, in-app purchases, or links to external websites or apps accessible to children.
  • Parents can review, modify, or delete their child's profile information at any time through the App's settings (protected by parental access verification).
  • If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child without proper parental consent, please contact us at support@makamedia.co and we will promptly delete it.

Parental Controls

The App provides robust parental controls to give parents and guardians oversight of their child's experience:

  • Parental access verification (using the parent's year of birth) and optional biometric authentication (Face ID/Touch ID) to access parental settings.
  • Configurable play timers to limit daily screen time.
  • Content curation: parents select the shows and channels available to their children.
  • Multiple child profiles with individual settings.

Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your Personal Information at any time by contacting us at support@makamedia.co. We will respond to your request within 30 days. Parents and guardians may also review, update, or delete their child's profile information directly within the App's parental settings area.

Our Website

Everything above describes our practices for the App. This final section covers additional practices that apply specifically to our Website (www.makakids.com) and that are not already covered above. The Website is a parent-facing marketing site directed only to adults; it is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Website. Unlike the App, the Website uses standard site analytics, cookies, and marketing pixels typical of marketing sites. We describe the third parties that support the Website by category below.

Information we collect on the Website

  • Email address — when you submit a form on the Website. This is the only way you provide information to the Website directly; our forms do not ask for your name, your child's information, or any other personal details.
  • Marketing attribution parameters present in the URL when you arrive on the Website (such as UTM parameters and click identifiers used by major advertising platforms). We store these in your browser's session storage so we can attribute sign-ups to the marketing channel that brought you in; session storage is cleared when you close your browser tab.
  • Pages and content you view, links you click, FAQ items you expand, search terms you enter in our help-center search, and similar interactions on the Website, captured by the analytics and marketing tools described below.
  • Standard log information that third parties receive whenever any browser loads a page — including your IP address, approximate location derived from your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, and access timestamps.

Categories of third parties we use for the Website

Each category below accesses data only as necessary to perform its function on our behalf, except for the advertising and conversion providers, which are independent data controllers as noted.

  • Site and product analytics. Measure visits, traffic patterns, page performance, and where sign-ups drop off in the funnel. Once you submit a form on the Website, our analytics may associate the visit with the email address you submitted so we can measure the funnel from first visit to sign-up; before then, only an anonymous identifier is used.
  • Advertising and conversion pixels. Conversion pixels and tags loaded from major social-media and search advertising platforms, which let us measure the performance of our advertising and retarget our own advertising to people who have visited the Website. These providers set their own cookies, automatically receive the standard log information described above when our pages load, and act as independent data controllers — they may combine what they receive from our site with information they already hold about you from other sites.
  • Tag and conversion management. A service that loads and manages the advertising and analytics tags described above.
  • Hosting and infrastructure analytics. The platform we host the Website on, which receives the standard log information described above whenever any page is loaded and provides built-in traffic analytics to us.
  • Content management. The platform that stores and serves our pages, articles, FAQs, and similar content on the Website. It does not receive any information that visitors submit through forms on the Website.
  • Sign-up database. The database that stores email addresses submitted via forms on the Website, along with the timestamp of each submission.
  • Email marketing. Our email-marketing service — the same one described under Marketing Emails above — also receives email addresses submitted via forms on the Website, together with the marketing attribution parameters described above. It sends you product updates, educational content, and similar marketing communications. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any such email.
  • Web fonts. Typefaces loaded from a third-party web-fonts provider; the provider receives the standard log information described above when your browser requests the font.

Cookies and similar technologies on the Website

Unlike the App, the Website uses cookies and similar technologies. They fall into four categories:

  • Strictly necessary cookies and storage, which the Website needs to function.
  • Analytics cookies, set by the site-analytics and hosting-analytics providers described above.
  • Advertising and marketing cookies, set by the advertising and conversion providers described above and by any tags loaded via our tag-management service.
  • Session storage, used to remember the marketing attribution parameters described above; cleared when you close your browser tab.

Your choices. You can refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect some Website functionality but will not prevent you from accessing it. You can also use the ad-personalization controls offered by each major advertising platform (for example, in your account settings on the relevant social-media platform, or at the platform's ad-settings page).

Retention and deletion for Website-only data. If you submitted information only through a form on the Website (and have not created an App account), we retain your email address and the associated marketing attribution data until you ask us to delete it or until we determine it is no longer needed for the purposes described above. You can request deletion at any time by emailing support@makamedia.co; we will complete deletion within 30 days.

Changes to Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other appropriate means before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Services following the posting of any changes to this policy means you accept such changes.

Contact

For questions or concerns relating to privacy, or to exercise any of your rights described above, you can contact us at support@makamedia.co.
